How Sunscreen Works | We Are Feel Good Sunscreen FAQ's

We Are Feel Good Inc. sunscreen is your everyday essential

Sunscreen is more than just a beach-day essential—it’s a daily skin defence tool. As a reseller of We Are Feel Good Inc., we're here to break down exactly how sunscreen works, why it’s crucial year-round, and how to choose the best formula for your lifestyle and skin type. Despite common misconceptions, not all sunscreen advice found online is accurate. So, let’s clear up the confusion.

Sunscreen: Your Skin’s Everyday Shield

All sunscreens—whether they use mineral or chemical filters—ultimately work by absorbing ultraviolet (UV) radiation and converting it into heat. This tiny amount of heat is then dissipated from the skin, protecting your cells from damage.

What Are the Different Types of Sunscreen?

There are two main categories of sunscreen:

  • Chemical (organic) sunscreens – These use carbon-based molecules that absorb UV rays.

  • Physical (inorganic or mineral) sunscreens – These contain ingredients like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, which also absorb UV rays (despite the myth that they only reflect them).

While older mineral sunscreens left a chalky white cast, modern formulas—like the Mineral SPF 50+ from We Are Feel Good Inc.—offer lightweight, invisible protection that suits all skin tones.

Why Should You Wear Sunscreen Every Day?

Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world. In fact, melanoma is the most common cancer in Australians aged 20–39. Plus, around 80% of visible skin aging is caused by sun exposure. That’s why SPF should be part of your daily skincare—rain, hail, or shine.

Dr Scott McGregor, skin cancer physician and co-founder of We Are Feel Good Inc., recommends using SPF 50+ every single day to prevent long-term skin damage and reduce the risk of skin cancer.

How Often Should You Apply Sunscreen?

Apply your sunscreen 20 minutes before heading outdoors. But reapplication is just as important—especially after swimming, sweating, or towelling off. Even on office days, a midday top-up can make a big difference if you’re exposed to sunlight during breaks or commutes.

Use about a teaspoon (5mL) for your face and neck, and about 35mL (2.5 tablespoons) for your whole body. Don’t forget areas like the back of your hands and ears!

How Do You Pick the Right Everyday Sunscreen?

The best sunscreen is one you’ll actually use every day. If your skin is sensitive, opt for a gentle formula like the Sensitive SPF 50+, which is fragrance-free and packed with anti-inflammatory antioxidants. For active days or water sports, all of We Are Feel Good Inc.'s SPF 50+ formulas are four-hour water-resistant and dermatologically tested.

What Does Broad Spectrum Mean?

Broad spectrum sunscreens protect against both UVA and UVB rays:

  • UVA rays age the skin and penetrate deeper layers

  • UVB rays cause sunburn and impact the skin’s surface

A good sunscreen should shield against both—so always check for “Broad Spectrum” on the label.

What Does SPF Stand For?

SPF (Sun Protection Factor) measures how much longer you can be exposed to UVB rays without burning. An SPF 50 means you can stay in the sun 50 times longer than without protection—if used correctly. This is why SPF 50+ is the gold standard, especially here in Australia where UV levels are intense.

Is Sunscreen Alone Enough?

No sunscreen can block 100% of UV rays, which is why additional sun-safe habits are essential. Wear a wide-brimmed hat, UV-protective sunglasses, and long-sleeved clothing where possible. Seek shade between 10am and 4pm and reapply SPF as needed. Remember: a full sun protection strategy is the most effective.  We have a huge collection of sun hats and wide-brimmed hats in canvas and straw.

Is Sunscreen Safe to Use?

Absolutely. In Australia, sunscreen products must pass strict safety and efficacy testing by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). Only TGA-approved sunscreens carry an AUSTL number—proof that they meet national standards. Every We Are Feel Good Inc. product is TGA listed and rigorously tested.

What If I Have Sensitive Skin or Allergies?

Sunscreen allergies are rare (affecting roughly 1% of users) and often caused by preservatives, fragrances, or common ingredients like vitamin E or beeswax. That’s why We Are Feel Good Inc. developed the Sensitive SPF 50+, which is free from fragrance and common irritants, while still offering maximum protection.

If you have concerns, always patch test new products first by applying a small amount to your inner arm or thigh and monitoring for a reaction over several hours.

Sunscreen is your first line of defence in protecting your skin’s health and appearance. By using a TGA-approved, broad spectrum SPF 50+ sunscreen—like those from We Are Feel Good Inc.—you’re making a smart, daily investment in your skin's future.

Whether you’re spending time outdoors or just heading to work, make SPF a habit—and feel good knowing your skin is protected.
